Roofing iron

verandah roof

The verandah ceiling went up on Tuesday (thanks Josh, Pete and Greg; happy birthday Nicole!). Because on the verandah the rafters are exposed the ceiling went on top of them. And because of the weather lots of black plastic went on top of that to keep it dry until the roofing iron could go on.

The colourbond roofing iron, guttering, chunky box gutter and ridge capping arrived on Wednesday morning. We’ve chosen ‘surfmist’ as our colour – it’s the lightest one they offer and should soak up least heat in summer. Insulation batts came too. Despite morning rain the sky held for most of the day and the roofing went up over the verandah. We have chosen to roof a small section on the eastern corner with transparent laserlite to allow some winter morning sun in – in summer the sun will hardly come through this bit at all.

We awoke to a minor drama on Thursday morning – some rain had leaked into the ceiling of the existing house and made its way down through the light fitting. Tony super electrician came and fixed this up temporarily (new lighting will be going here anyway) and lots more black plastic was put in place to avert further leakage.
